Sixteen Contributions Made to Teachers' Institute Scholarships

An emerging program is the sponsorship of a high school teacher to attend one of the two-week institutes held at five universities. Sixteen organizations and/or companies have stepped forward to recognize a deserving teacher with a partial or full-scholarship. More...

How you can help

The Insurance Education Institute was founded in 1988 on recommendation of a NAMIC task force. Today, it is an independent charitable organization supported by donations from companies and individuals from that have an interest in insurance. The Foundation is dedicated to improving public understanding of insurance and its role in society through the education of teachers and students.

IEI accomplishes its mission through the following programs:

  • Graduate level courses for high school teachers hosted by Drake University, Illinois State University, St. John's University, Mississippi State University and the University of Central Arkansas.
  • Choice-Chance-Control teachers' resource kit (with video, lesson plans, activity suggestions and copy masters) adaptable to various curricula for high school instruction.
  • James L. Osborne teacher recognition program.

Collaboration programs with:

1) LIFE-distribution of the Next Generation: Insuring Your Future Videos/Kit
2) IIAA-coordination with INVEST
3) Junior Achievement-an insurance module developed by IEI for their economics curriculum
4) USAA - distribution of informational booklets on various forms of insurance
5) MIEI - distribution of CD-Rom lesson on "How We All Benefit from Insurance."

The Foundation has delivered over 68,000 Choice-Chance-Control kits and educated over 2,100 teachers through the Insurance Education Institutes since their inception. IEI is working to expand the visibility and availability of its material through website distribution of articles, lesson plans, graphics and videos.
