John C. Etling Award Winners Announced at Insurance Education Institutes
Indianapolis IN (October 23, 2001) Six teachers
from around the U.S. were awarded the John C. Etling
Scholarship Award for outstanding achievement at an
insurance institute this summer. This award was presented
by the Indianapolis based Insurance Education Foundation,
which sponsors the insurance institutes, and GeneralCologne
Re, Stamford, Connecticut, in honor of John C. Etling,
past President and CEO of General Reinsurance Corp.,
who passed away in 1997. Mr. Etling believed in and
supported the mission of IEI and was known to his colleagues
as a champion of insurance education.
The Etling award recognizes the teacher at each institute
who demonstrated the highest level of achievement during
the two-week program. These insurance institutes are
an annual event designed for teachers who teach insurance
either as a specific course or as part of another subject.
The universities who conducted the institutes in 2001
and their respective Etling award winners are: (1) Drake
University, Des Moines, Iowa--Julie Binneboese, Iowa
City West High School, Iowa City, Iowa; (2) California
State University, Sacramento--Ann Neely, McClellan Business
Technology Magnet High School, Little Rock, Arkansas;
(3) St. John's University, School of Risk Management,
New York, New York (two teachers shared this award)--Diana
Weinapple, Dulaney High School, Timonium, Maryland and
Don Darling, Cambridge Central School, Cambridge, New
York; (4) Illinois State University, Normal--Patty Wilkinson,
Stark County High School, Toulon, Illinois; and (5)
Florida State University, Tallahassee--Tomica Wright,
Griffin Middle School, High Point, North Carolina.
