Insurance Institutes for Teachers Held Across U.S.
(Indianapolis IN, October 23, 2001) The
Indianapolis based Insurance Education Foundation (IEI)
sponsored insurance institutes for teachers this summer
at five universities around the U.S. These two-week
programs are designed for educators who teach insurance
as a specific course or as part of another subject such
as business, consumer education, economics, social science,
drivers education, etc. Their purpose is to enable educators
to become more effective in teaching insurance by providing
the tools they need for understanding all forms of insurance
with an emphasis on the relevance to high school students
and their families.
One hundred forty-eight teachers from thirty-seven
states attended this year's institutes and received
scholarships covering the costs of three hours of graduate
credit, on-campus room and board, and classroom materials.
The universities hosting the 2001 summer insurance
institutes were Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa;
California State University, Sacramento; St. John's
University, School of Risk Management (formerly The
College of Insurance), New York, New York; Illinois
State University, Normal; and Florida State University,
Tallahassee.
