Jay McKinstrey Named National Insurance Educator of the Year for 2001
Indianapolis (October 19, 2001) Jay McKinstrey,
a business teacher and head football coach at Pella
High School in Pella, Iowa, has been selected as the
recipient of the James L. Osborne Insurance Educator
of the Year award, so named in honor of the founder
of The Insurance Education Institute (IEI).
As winner of the fourth annual competition sponsored
by IEI, Mr. McKinstrey will be invited to serve on IEI's
National Advisory Council of Secondary Teachers (NACST)
and to be a judge for next year's insurance educator
of the year competition. Both Mr. McKinstrey and his
school will receive monetary awards in recognition of
his achievement.
McKinstrey's entry to the competition included
teaching strategies, lesson plans, and student activities
created to teach high school students about insurance,
enabling them to become knowledgeable insurance consumers
in their adult lives. In preparation for this national
competition, McKinstrey attended the Insurance Education
Institute at Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa, in
1999.
