Dear Friends of IEI:
This second issue of Foundation Facts is coming
to you following our June Board of Directors meeting,
which generated several exciting initiatives.
With modifications to existing programs and the
addition of new projects, there are many items
to report. Your continuing support is an integral
part of our ability to serve high school teachers
and students across the country. Here is what’s
happening.
Sincerely,

William J. Howell, CLU, ChFC, CAE

Golf Tournament & Silent Auction
The annual IEI Golf Classic will be held Saturday,
September 23, 2000 at Springhouse Golf Club in
Nashville, Tennessee, preceding the NAMIC convention.
All proceeds from this event and the silent auction
that follow will be used to fund educational materials
for teachers and students. We would love to have
your participation at this gala event, both as
a golfer and as a contributor to the auction.
Sports memorabilia, show tickets, weekend getaways,
etc. will all be up for bids. If you have an item
you can donate to help us raise funds, we would
appreciate it. Please call or drop us an email
as time is short.
Institute Events
The best advertisement for the effectiveness of
IEI’s curriculum is a teacher that has completed
the institute program. That is why we will be
filming the beginning and end of the program at
two of the schools this year. We want to record
teachers' reactions before and after their experiences
to illustrate what a difference this education
is making. Once the filming is complete, we will
let you know so that a copy can be provided if
you wish. We are sure you will be impressed with
the results of the program you are helping to
fund.
Teachers' Advisory Council
Eleven teachers from our national advisory council
will be meeting with staff and Board members on
July 29th and 30th in Indianapolis. Their primary
focus will be to test the relevance of our current
programs and to advise on the direction of new
initiatives. The council will examine the institute
curriculum for revisions or updates. They will
also be discussing the provision of on-line educational
material for teachers. IEI wants to deliver lesson
plans and other teaching tools on line to reach
a broader spectrum of the high school population.
Developing these original materials and providing
links to other resources will benefit thousands
of teachers and students in the future.
Data Base Development
The heart of any good business is the ability
to communicate with customers and prospects while
managing the information flow in a timely and
efficient fashion. We are enhancing the ability
of the Foundation to communicate with you in a
timely and accurate manner with the purchase of
software designed specifically for charitable
organizations. This leap into the information
age will enable us to do a better job of documenting
your contributions and identifying new sources
of revenue. This system should be on line before
the end of the year.
Marketing & Promotion
A new promotional piece has been designed and
will be ready for distribution soon. In addition
to presenting the Foundation in a positive and
professional light, this new tool will recognize
our major donors as well. We think you will be
pleased with this new communication and the spotlight
it puts on the Foundation’s contributors.
Board Changes
The IEI Board bids farewell to Directors John
Fisher of Auto Owners Insurance Company and Henry
“Butch” Viccellio of USAA. We all owe a debt of
thanks to these two staunch advocates of the Foundation
for their corporate support and personal commitment
over the years. Joining the Board in September
will be Kent Williams, Sr. Vice President of P&C
Operations for USAA
