IEI Announces 2006 James L. Osborne Insurance Educator of the Year Award Competition

The Insurance Education Institute (IEI) is once again proud to announce the competition for the James L. Osborne Insurance Educator of the Year Award for the year 2006. In honor of the organization's founder, this award will be presented to a high school teacher who demonstrates excellence in providing insurance education to our nation's high school students.

We invite you to submit your entry for this special recognition of your contribution in the classroom. Eligibility is limited to those high school teachers who have completed an Insurance Education Institute sponsored by IEI.

Awards

Cash prize for recipient of $1,000
Cash prize for high school of $1,000
Awards appropriate for display in the home and classroom

Purpose

To recognize secondary educators who are doing an excellent job of teaching insurance to today's teenagers and who are promoting insurance education as an important part of the secondary curriculum.
To encourage teachers to integrate insurance concepts within a broader spectrum of the secondary curriculum
To showcase innovative teaching methods educators have created to help students understand insurance.

Rules

Nominees must be professional educators who have successfully completed an Insurance Education Institute sponsored by The Insurance Education Institute.
Teachers must teach insurance during the 2005-2006 school year in a course leading to a high school diploma.
One teacher per entry--no team entries will be considered.
Eligible teachers are encouraged to enter the competition in their own behalf. It is not necessary to be nominated by another individual.
Previous winners of this award are not eligible to enter.

Judging

Judges are former recipients of the James L. Osborne Insurance Educator of the Year Award.

Criteria

An award winning entry will clearly demonstrate teaching strategies and classroom activities that prepare students to understand insurance and how they can use it in their lives as consumers and responsible citizens. Your entry will be judged on the following criteria:

1. The comprehensiveness of insurance instruction
2. The variety of delivery methods
3. Creativity of delivery methods
4. Thoroughness of application process
5. Confirmation of professional references
