Welcome to the Advisory Council for Insurance Education.
Objective
Design Institute curriculum and classroom material for insurance and personal financial planning.
Purpose:
Provide high school teachers with a uniformly strong and functional curriculum to use when teaching insurance.
Rationale:
The Insurance Education Institute (IEI) has determined that young people need to understand the principles of risk management and how insurance enables them to manage that process more effectively.
IEI's goal is to provide high school teachers with a knowledge base that will enable them to teach their students about insurance and reliable risk management techniques.
To accomplish that goal, IEI produces and recommends teaching materials designed to facilitate the educational process in the classroom.
IEI believes that these materials function best as a whole curriculum, giving teachers all the resources necessary to effectively teach insurance. This teaching curriculum must be of the highest quality – for both content and usability in the classroom. An advisory council, focused on designing and maintaining quality materials for teaching insurance, will ensure that IEI continues to provide to teachers the most excellent set of programs available.
Proposal:
The IEI proposes that the ICAC be composed of representatives from several areas of the education community, as this would allow for a more dynamic and thorough program creation and review process.
Council Members:
- Five engaged and successful high school teachers who teach insurance (either alone or as part of a larger subject)
- One Institute administrator
- Two professors of insurance education
- One State Department of Education representatives
- One Academy of Finance teacher
- One Junior Achievement teacher
- One corporate educational material specialist
